PORT MACQUARIE HOUSE
Faced with the challenge of a small, narrow, steep corner block that faces west in the suburbs, the design called for some out-of-the-box thinking to squeeze on a 4 bedroom home with 3 car garage, 2 living areas, a pool & outdoor entertaining area whilst creating an open & airy feel to the house that's private from the street.
The site is only 302m², averages 12m wide, has 5m of fall & is a corner block posed their own problems, but also opportunities
Working with the slope of the land, the garages were placed at the base of the site, extending back in under the building to provide both parking & trailer storage.
With the garages underneath & the pool to the left, protected by the cantilevered top floor, the facade presents a modernist front to the street

The outdoor living areas are screened by hedges to provide privacy to both outdoors & inside

The pool is adjacent to the outdoor living area & has its own terrace beside it
The outdoor living areas flow easily into the indoor living areas, creating a sense of width & an open airy feel
The outdoor living & pool is designed for privacy whilst celebrating the view. This makes the narrow block seem much wider than it is
The kitchen is situated directly beside the outdoor living area, with large stacker doors blurring the line between indoor & outdoor areas
The open plan kitchen / dining / living area are all joined to the outdoor living area by large stacker doors
The kitchen has a space saving laundry in the left hand corner, whilst a breakfast preparation area is recessed into the main storage cupboards
