DOWSET WEEKENDER
The renovation & addition to an old fisherman's cottage at Patonga on the NSW Central Coast.
The old rear additions were removed & a modern new addition put in its place. Instead of trying to mimic the old cottage, the new extension takes its form scale from the old cottage & puts a modern spin on it. The juxtaposition between the old & new brings out the best in both, highlighting best aspects of each.
The extension consists of an open plan kitchen, living & dining room, with the kitchen remaining in the old section, but completely open & integrated into the new section. The open plan allows the cottage to flow out t the rear deck & backyard, making it perfect for the weekend family getaway.
A new master bedroom is at one end of the new extension, with large windows & sliding doors on both sides. This achieves a light airy feeling, with plenty of cross ventilation to allow the cooling summer seabreezes to flow through.
