MOUNTAIN DRIVE APARTMENT

One half of a 1980's duplex apartment, the initial project was to increase the loft space. It was narrow, open to the living area & had a low ceiling. The solution was to add a large gable roof over the loft, increasing the width of the loft & adding lots of head height, The gable is fully glazed above the existing roof to provide light & views to the tree tops, whilst fixed glazing below the existing roof line provides light down into the living area.

The downstairs kitchen & dining positions were reversed, opening up the ground floor space & providing a better link between the kitchen & the BBQ area for the summer.

A second stage was to add a firepit to the BBQ area. A spiral design was employed for the seat, so that no matter how big or small the fire gets, you can find your perfect distance away just by sliding along the seat.
